Braai Broodjies

So we had a little fun this past weekend in sponsoring an “Al-A-Carte” episode with some “Inappropriate Cooking” by Al Van Buuren.

RECIPE

Ingredients

  • Bread squares
  • Butter/margarine
  • Tomato Puree (See ingredients below)
  • Grated cheese – Mixed Cheddar and Mozzarella
  • Bacon ( Cooked in honey & brown sugar)
  • If desired you may add jalapenos

Tomato Puree Ingredients

  • Tomato Paste
  • Onions
  • Basil
  • italian herbs
  • Origanum
  • Crushed Garlic
  • Salt & Pepper

METHOD

  1. Firstly ensure your braai is on the go and that you are using our Namibian Kameeldoring
  2. Spread your butter on both sides of your slices to ensure an even crispy layer
  3. Spread your tomato puree on one slice ensuring thta you reach each corner properly
  4. Sprinkle your cooked bacon on top of your tomato puree, be generous
  5. Layer your slice with your cheese mix
  6. Cover with the second slice of bread, to form a sandwich. Complete as many as your require for your Braai guests, or as many as you wish to enjoy for yourself.
  7. Place onto the braai when temperature is perfect
  8. Turn braai broodtjies after a few minutes and/or crispy on one side
  9. After about 3 to 5 minutes depending on your braai temperature, they should all be ready to eat.
  10. Place them onto a board and slice them diagonally across.
  11. Serve with a sauce of your choice, our favourite is Sweet Chilli.
